Anyway you cut it, a ton of talented people are creating some very entertaining content on the web, mostly for free, for us to enjoy! They provide store fronts where they hawk goods (t-shirts, books) to help pay for the cost of running sites, and providing free content. Here are some of my favorite ones, I hope you'll enjoy them too and start following them regularly. And who know? Maybe you'll support them by buying something from their stores.
Doghouse Diaries
Doghouse Diaries is a web comic that I came across in my travels around the web. I believe it was a Gizmodo article ( and it was - This Is Exactly Why I Don't Check My Voicemail Anymore) that introduced and turned me into Doghouse fan.
Rooster Teeth Comic
Rooster Teeth is the company responsible for Red vs Blue, the machimania series loosely based on the Halo universe. They've been together now for sometime, (7 years?) and for the past 3 years and some they have been producing comics at a clip of about three a week. Centered around some of the primary staff of Rooster Teeth, the comic often pokes fun at real world events, or inside jokes. It's just one piece of many pieces of entertainment these guys put out. I'd recommend checking out the comics, the videos and the weekly podcast out.

Indexed
A weekday comic, well sort of, as the writer Jessica draws humorous graphs on index cards to help her poke fun at a variety of things. Currently she has been nominated for a Webby (for the 4th time), as been mentioned in Time Magazine's Top Blogs and PC Magazine's Top 100 Blogs. Although not as crude as some of the other comic I've listed, I do find more often then not I am enjoying her work, and getting a good laugh out of it as well!

xkcd
Possible one of the more famous web-comics, this is a webcomic for geeks by a geek. I really enjoy this one as well. This is an example of a gentlemen who started doing this a s a hobby, and as now started doing it full-time. From his about page: "I started drawing more seriously, gained a lot more readers, started selling t-shirts on the site, and am currently shipping t-shirts and drawing this comic full-time."

Cyanide & Happiness
I don't think I could complete this list without including the Explosm comic Cyanide and Happiness. My first love of web-comics, can often times be crude, offensive, and very much out of line. But that is often what I enjoy about it.

What do you think? Did I miss anything? Do you have a comic you enjoy that I should be following? Put your recommendations in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!
