This week, I'd like to recommend a open source project I came across well search for a billing software, and that would be MyClientBase. Written in PHP and ontop of the CodeIgniter framework, this stable software provides essential functions you would expect from an invoicing software as well as some perks.

Some of the perks:It is open source and free. Which is awesome for small businesses, and the fact that it's open source allows you to build custom pieces you may require. (Hey, if you unable to, I can help you out with that). Because it is open source, you can download and maintain a copy on your own equipment. Where you can do things like manage your clients and invoices from the localhost on your machine, or from your web server, giving you access from anywhere in the world. Some of the Functionality:MyClientBase offers things you would expect from any invoicing software. For example: Invoices: the ability to add invoice items that you would bill multiple times, like hosting fees or domain fees. One thing that seems to lack here is the ability to have re-occuring bills. It does however have the ability to email invoices and create them into PDFs with customizable templates. Clients: something I often find lacking is free options like this, is the ability to have multiple contact per client. For example, I sometime find that you have one person for projects, and another individual who deals with billing. MyClientBase has addressed this in the system. Final ThoughtsI like MyClientBase, because the UI is clean and effective, and everything is straight forward and easy to use. The ability to create modules is a bonus, and allows someone to customize the system to meet their unique requirements. That is why, this week I recommend MyClientBase. |
